Residents accept medical marijuana bylaws

Residents approved local bylaws for medical marijuana dispensaries and fingerprint-based background checks for those working in certain professions in town — such as liquor-license holders, hawkers and peddlers, taxi and ice cream truck drivers — at the Oct. 15 Special Town Meeting. A slow-to-arrive turnout of 239 people started the meeting 45 minutes after its posted 7 p.m. time, and dispatched 14 of 15 articles from the warrant. Article 5, a transfer of $63,500 for design and engineering work for athletic fields expansion at the Mile Lane field complex, was referred to the Finance Committee for review and is expected to come back before residents at Town Meeting next spring.
