Gage Field playground group gains momentum

A local grass-roots organization got a significant boost recently thanks to the Painters and Allied Trades and the Merrimack Valley Building Trades, both of whom singled Friends of Gage Field out for a donation. The unions presented a $10,000 contribution to the group, which is working to raise funds to overhaul the Gage Field playground on Beacon Street. Organizers from the group say the donation will go a long way toward their goal of raising $100,000 to install 15 new pieces of playground equipment as well as a bathroom. The chosen theme for the revamped park will be related to outer space, given its proximity to the S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School. It is hoped the project can be completed by 2015.
