Ipswich Police Sergeant Jonathan Hubbard was recently appointed provisional lieutenant, replacing Lieutenant Dan Moriarty, who retired from the department in August. Hubbard will serve in the interim position until a permanent replacement is hired, which Town Manager Robin Crosbie indicated was likely not happen until fall 2015, after the civil service promotional process is completed. As provisional lieutenant, Hubbard will serve as the chief’s executive officer in charge of coordinating with the district attorney in prosecuting criminal cases, scheduling, training, and internal affairs. He will also serve as acting chief when the police chief is away. Hubbard said that he plans to apply for the permanent position.
