Somerville seeks nominations for preservation awards

Somerville is seeking nominations for the 2014 Preservation Awards honoring residents who have made significant restoration or maintenance efforts on historic buildings. The Somerville Historic Preservation Commission will accept nominations through Nov. 15. To be eligible, a property owner must have completed the restoration and preservation work during 2013 on a designated historic building, or a building built before 1963 that is not designated as historic . Owners may nominate their own property, or may be nominated by others in the community. Some of the eligible types of projects include repairing or restoring damaged or missing architectural details, removing inappropriate siding materials, and repainting with historical colors. The commission will honor the winners in May 2014 at the Somerville Museum. Nomination forms are available online at, and at City Hall in the first-floor lobby or the Preservation Commission’s office on the second floor. For more information, contact the city’s preservation planner, Kristi Chase, at 617-625-6600, ext. 2525.
