Officials finalizing plan for compost site

Officials are finalizing a management plan for the town’s compost site. For years, residents and (until last year) landscapers have deposited yard clippings and brush on the property, but after 20 years the pile has simply gotten too large, according to Town Administrator Andrew Bisignani, and is encroaching on abutting wetlands. The Department of Environmental Protection ordered the town to correct violations at the site, and the town did so beginning in 2012. The town has already removed much of the compost, and Bisignani said he anticipated it would finish the job this year.
