Shawsheen sophomore earns top honors in statewide design competition

Billerica resident Alex Hamilton, a sophomore at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, has earned top honors in a statewide design competition. Massachusetts Skills USA, a student leadership organization, chose the design and visual communications student’s work for a trading pin that will be worn by students representing Massachusetts at a national competition. In all, more than 200 designs from students across the Commonwealth were submitted. Hamilton’s winning design features a circle-over-triangle design with an outline of Massachusetts. The design also includes trade tool symbols, with a skyline at the top within a color scheme of red, white, blue, and gold, and the state name. Hamilton’s design will now be the official Massachusetts state trading pin, worn by each of the 2,500 students and advisors at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Marlborough in May. The pins will also be worn by students representing Massachusetts at the National Leadership Conference and SkillsUSA Competition in Kansas City, Mo., in June. Hamilton will be recognized at the state conference and presented with a plaque. By winning the state competition, Hamilton has earned a trip to the national conference.
