Regional agency to help town become greener

A regional planning agency will help Saugus become greener. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council recently selected Saugus to participate in its Local Energy Action Program that helps cities and towns plan and implement clean-energy projects. The council will also assist the town with an application for a state designation as a “green community,” according to Town Manager Scott Crabtree. Cities and towns can earn the distinction if they undertake certain initiatives to become more energy-efficient and to expand their use of renewable energy. Green communities are eligible for state grants to help cover the costs of those projects.
