Burlington

Town providing discounted rain barrels

For the second year in a row, Burlington is partnering with the Great American Rain Barrel Company to offer reduced price rain barrels to town residents. We are bringing rain barrels to Burlington to help homeowners bring down their water costs and to help protect our water supply,” Jodie Keene, the town’s assistant conservation administrator, said in a prepared statement. “Rain barrels are also a great way to reduce the burden on the municipal storm-water system and to help alleviate some of the flooding that we see around town.” The barrels are available for $69 each, 40 percent below the retail price. Made from recycled shipping drums, the 60-gallon barrels are 39 inches tall and 24 inches wide and come in three colors: forest green, earth brown, and Nantucket gray. The deadline to order a barrel is May 3. To purchase one, go to www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com and click on “Community Programs.” Barrels must be picked up at the Town Hall parking lot on May 10 from 9-11 a.m. For more information, call the Conservation Department at 781-270-1655.
