Chelsea selects Ambrosino as new city manager

The Chelsea City Council has chosen former Revere mayor Thomas G. Ambrosino to serve as the new city manager.

Eight councilors voted Monday in favor of Ambrosino and three for the other finalist, Mark Rees, according to council president Leo Robinson. “We had two good candidates to choose from,” Robinson said. “It was a tough choice as to who you felt would hit the ground running and continue some of the things we’ve been doing.”

The appointment was subject to the city and Ambrosino reaching contract terms. Ambrosino served 12 years as Revere’s mayor. Since retiring in January, 2012, he has been executive director of the Supreme Judicial Court. Rees was formerly city manager in Portland, Maine, and town manager in North Andover.

The position became vacant when Jay Ash resigned in January to become state Secretary of Housing and Economic Development
