Join the Friends of Beverly Animals at their annual Fur Ball on Oct. 23. The fund-raiser will be held at the Italian Community Center, 302 Rantoul St., Beverly, from 7 to 11 p.m. Local band Horizon & The Horns will provide live music while animal lovers support rescue and adoption as well as establishing a no-kill shelter in Beverly. Get in the Halloween spirit with the Panic in the Dark obstacle run in Lowell. Deemed “the scariest run in the country,” runners navigate the zombie-filled Shedd Park on Oct. 24. Check in will be held at Holy Ghost Society park at 65 Village St.Groups will leave every 10 minutes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Don’t feel like running? Enter to be a zombie instead. The Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council has donated $5,000 to the Where Angels Play Foundation in memory of former MIT police officer Sean Collier. The gift was awarded on Sept. 25, the day prior to opening of the Sean Collier Memorial Playground in Wilmington, which was constructed by the foundation.
