Hallmark Health ’s third annual “Taste of Spring” was a major success, with more than 220 supporters present, resulting in more than $47,000 raised to benefit bariatric support programs, cancer care, cardiology, and the Wakefield-based North Suburban Child and Family Resource Network. The event was hosted by Mercedes-Benz of Burlington and included live and silent auctions, live entertainment, and food and wine tastings.

Michael J. Tougias , author of the bestselling sea survival book, “The Finest Hours,” will host a presentation at the Malden Public Library on May 25. He will show slides of the book’s source, the true story of a 1952 storm that left two ships stranded off Cape Cod until the Coast Guard could save them. He will talk about his other 23 books, including “A Storm Too Soon” and “So Close to Home.” The 7 p.m. presentation is free and open to the public and will be held at 36 Salem St.

Alisha Raby Cefalo, a North Shore Community College student from Lynn, has received the Newman Civic Fellow Award , a national honor for student leaders who have taken action in pursuit of long-term social change, and who engage and inspire others in their communities. Raby Cefalo was chosen for her academic excellence, her involvement in many NSCC activities such as student government,

poetry, and public speaking, and her dedication to building leadership skills. She will graduate in May with an associate’s degree in environmental horticulture, with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Goddard College in Vermont.

on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The museum included a humanoid robot, a Newton’s cradle, and a 3-D printer for students of all grade levels to explore.

The Newburyport Public Library will host a presentation by Glenna Collett about book design on May 4. The presentation, titled “What is Book Design, Anyway?,” will include deciding whether DIY book designing is the right fit and, if so, how to use Adobe InDesign. Collett has more than 40 years’ experience in book design and is the coauthor of “Book Design Made Simple.” The 7 p.m. event is free and open to the public.
