The Taly Foundation, a Framingham-based nonprofit, is providing the Somerville public schools with an $11,000 grant to expand the guidance and technical help it provides to private local preschools in the city as well as the district’s own prekindergarten program. The grant will fund a joint effort by district and private educators to craft a common curriculum aimed at preparing children to enter the public schools. Officials said the project is the next step in a two-year-old initiative to promote greater coordination with the city’s preschool programs. The public schools recently formalized partnerships with four local early education providers; is participating in a pilot full-day prekindergarten class; and is developing a strategic plan to provide preschool services for low-income families.
