Congresswoman Niki Tsongas submitted remarks to the Congressional Record recognizing Haverhill veteran John Katsaros, president of the Air Forces Escape and Evasion Society. The society was created in 1964 by downed aircrew members and people who directly helped them escape captivity in occupied countries. It has more than 600 members and includes veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. While flying an Army bombing mission in World War II, a wounded Katsaros, now 93, had to parachute out of his plane over France. He was captured by the Germans, but the French Underground helped him escape.
