Rockport designated as Green Community

Rockport was one of 30 cities and towns recently designated as a Green Community, bringing the number in the state to 185.

Rockport received $148,670 to meet the requirements of the Green Communities Act, including a commitment to reducing municipal energy consumption by 20 percent over five years.

Since 2010, the state has awarded more than $65 million in grants for the program.

“We’re really thrilled with the designation and all of the work our Green Communities Task Force did to get there,” Town Administrator Linda Sanders said.

The task force will detail specific changes when it meets with the Board of Selectmen at the board’s meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Town Hall.
