Center for adults on autism spectrum opens in Lawrence

Melmark New England, a service division of Melmark Inc. that offers educational, clinical, and residential services for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently dedicated the Cancro Center for Adult Services. The center, at the Riverwalk complex in Lawrence, offers an adult day program and vocational education classrooms for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The center is named in honor of Larry and Luise Cancro of Andover, who have been a driving force in the state advocating for improved funding and program support. The dedication ceremony was held as part of Melmark’s celebration of the conclusion of its Promises to Keep capital campaign, which raised about $22.18 million from 4,354 donors. Nearly $5.6 million of the campaign total, including a landmark $2 million donation from the Yawkey Foundation, supported New England initiatives.
