Election season kicks off with candidate nights in Salem

The Salem Chamber of Commerce is presenting two candidate forums for the 2017 city election season. The first, on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the Salem Waterfront Hotel, will feature candidates for city councilor at large. The second, on Aug. 31 at the Hawthorne Hotel, will include candidates for mayor. Both are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Although the forums will be business-focused, all are welcome to attend and to provide questions to the moderator to ask the candidates. The city’s preliminary election is Sept. 12 and the final election Nov. 7. In the mayor’s race, incumbent Kimberley L. Driscoll is challenged by former Ward 6 Councilor Paul Prevey. There are nine candidates for four councilor at large seats: incumbents Arthur C. Sargent III, Thomas H. Furey, Jerry L. Ryan, and Elaine Milo; current Ward 4 Councilor David W. Eppley; and political newcomers Elizabeth Bradt, Jeffrey Cohen, Domingo Dominguez, and Brendan Pelter.
