Buy on Craigslist, pay at Groveland’s ‘MeetUp Spot’

The Groveland Police Department has established a “MeetUp Spot” in the police station parking lot at 181 Main St. to give people a safe and secure meeting place to complete online transactions. Instead of giving out their home addresses or risking a robbery, residents can make in-person exchanges of merchandise and cash while under video surveillance. “We know that the trend of purchasing and selling items online is only going to continue to rise, so we wanted to allocate a space to our community members to make safe transactions,” Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen said. “Residents and business owners who are completing transactions using sites like Craigslist and Facebook are encouraged to utilize this new service.” The Groveland Police Station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and security cameras always are on.
