Residents are invited to hear more about repairs planned for the Chelsea Viaduct at a public meeting the state Department of Transportation is holding at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Chelsea City Hall, 500 Broadway. The raised roadway carries 63,000 vehicles daily on Route 1 through the “Chelsea Curves” to the Tobin Bridge, providing a link between the northern suburbs and Boston. State officials said the viaduct is structurally deficient and in need of repair. The project will include repairing the structure’s supports, and a new travel surface. The state Department of Transportation is designing a plan for construction that will seek to minimize temporary construction impacts. Work on the viaduct will be coordinated with construction activity planned as part of a separate Tobin Bridge deck rehabilitation project.John Laidler can be reached at email@example.com.
