The Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover has begun construction of its new Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) Innovation Lab, which will blend academic and vocational learning. The new labs, set to open in January, will feature state-of-the-art equipment, including a sound recording studio, biotech and biology lab, medical assistance lab, an updated engineering lab, and expansion of 3D printing capabilities. As part of the STEAM program, the school formed an educational partnership with the MIT Edgerton Center to help develop courses and later work with students as part of their studies. Students from Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, and North Andover attend the school. The project cost, $400,000 in the first year, was paid for by a mix of public and private grants.Linda Greenstein can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
