How a white person can be a strong ally to people of color will be the topic of discussion at a community forum in Marblehead on Monday, Nov 20.
The event, free and open to all, is set for 7 p.m. at the Abbot Public Library, 235 Pleasant St. The forum is the latest in an ongoing series of informal “Conversations on Race” that are being organized jointly by the Marblehead Racial Justice Team and the library. The conversations, which began earlier this year, are intended to provide a place where topics related to race can be discussed safely and honestly, in order to help promote a greater sense of inclusion in town and the wider society.
Each meeting explores a different topic about racism. Monday’s forum will look at ways in which white people can be effective as allies to people of color, as well as actions that are not helpful.
The conversation will be led by the Rev. Wendy von Courter, who is minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead and a member of the Marblehead Racial Justice Team, along with other team members.
