During the 28th annual Firefighter of the Year Awards ceremony in Worcester, Lowell Captain Robert Beane, Lieutenant Sean Quealy, and firefighters Michael Dexter and Matthew Newel received a Group Award for Meritorious Conduct for their efforts to pull 3-year-old out of a burning home at 55-59 Parker St. in February 2017. Sadly, the child did not survive.

“The Commonwealth’s firefighters make tremendous sacrifices and risk their lives on a regular basis to protect the members of their communities,” said Governor Charlie Baker in presenting the award. “We are proud to salute this year’s award recipients, who drew upon their training and experience to perform remarkable acts that saved lives.”
