John D. Keenan will be inaugurated as the 14th president of Salem State University on Friday, Jan. 19. A former Democratic state representaive from Salem, Keenan has served as the university’s president since Aug. 6. The event will be held at 2 p.m. in the O’Keefe Center. In addition to an inaugural address by Keenan, Governor Charles Baker, Mayor Kimberley L. Driscoll, state Senator Joan Lovely, and state Representative Paul F. Tucker also will speak. The university’s trustees last May selected Keenan from among more than 100 original applicants and four finalists to succeed Patricia Maguire Meservey, who retired as president in August after leading the university for 10 years.
