Beyond Walls is fund-raising for mural festival in Lynn

Local residents are invited to support a Lynn organization that plans to present a mural festival in the city this summer.

Beyond Walls is undertaking a funding drive for the festival in collaboration with MassDevelpment through the civic crowdfunding platform Patronicity. Beyond Walls is a nonprofit focused on revitalizing downtown Lynn and other areas of the city by installing art and lighting.

Last July, Beyond Walls held a mural festival that brought 23 artists and more than 5,000 people to the downtown, generating 4.5 million social media mentions, according to the group. Through this year’s funding drive, it hopes to hold a second mural festival this summer. If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000 by May 31 at midnight, the project will win a $50,000 matching grant from MassDevelopment through its Commonwealth Places program.

Beyond Walls teamed with MassDevelopment on a similar fund drive last year, using the proceeds to install LED lighting at the Central Square underpass, and for that year’s mural festival.
