Committee opposes regionalization process

The School Committee voted Nov. 15 to oppose the Board of Selectmen’s pursuit of a state grant to study school regionalization with Avon. School Committee chairwoman Barbara Davis said the vote indicates opposition to the process the selectmen used, not necessarily to regionalization. The selectmen held a joint meeting with Avon selectmen this year to discuss the regionalization grant, but Davis said the board never requested a joint meeting with the School Committee, nor did it send the committee a copy of the grant application until it had been filed. She said the committee is concerned that a “parallel course” toward regionalization will jeopardize Holbrook’s position with the Massachusetts School Building Authority for funding of a school construction project.
