Town administrator search

The Board of Selectmen has voted to hire a recruitment firm to find a town administrator rather than mount an in-house search. The board interviewed two recruitment firms at a recent meeting and plans to interview a third at its Dec. 11 meeting. Kingston has been without a top administrator since Jim Thomas agreed to resign in July after reports of inappropriate behavior toward other town employees. Both recruitment firms estimated a new town administrator could be on the job in about 120 days. Selectmen still have to decide on procedures, such as whether they wish to set up a screening committee to interview the finalists, before the board makes the appointment. Longtime assistant Nancy Howlett has been interim town administrator since Thomas’s departure.
