Schools lose bid for state funding

Superintendent of Schools Marguerite Rizzi has announced that the district’s Statement of Interest for renovations to South Elementary School and a new or renovated Stoughton High will not be taken up this year by the Massachusetts School Building Authority. A total of 280 statements of interest were filed from 121 school districts, and 14 were invited into the eligibility period for this fiscal year. Stoughton can reapply when a new funding cycle opens in January. Rizzi noted that the majority of districts invited into the funding process had applied previously or were schools with overcrowding issues. Stoughton had sought the funding beacuse of problems with facilities and their potential effect on accreditation, she said.
