Trails in the forest

Hiking the Clifford Grant Forest is getting easier as volunteers build a network of trails funded by a $17,000 state grant. The first bridge was completed last month. “About 8-10 volunteers showed up, and we constructed the bridge across the Black Brook in just under three hours,” said Chris Patrick, who is spearheading the project. “All of the lumber was pre-cut off site to limit any soil contamination, and the bridge is set on stone piers with rip-rap to keep the wooden stringers out of the water.” For information about the project and future volunteer efforts, e-mail Patrick at mtbchris@gmail.com.
