Language academy expands

A private Hingham school that offers English-speaking children the chance to learn Spanish or Mandarin is expanding. Born as an after-school program in 2004, Su Escuela Language Academy has been in existence as a school for a year and a half, its officials said, and has 125 students in the first grade. The school offers full- and half-day options for ages 15 months to Grade 1 and will also offer Grade 2 next year. “We are creating fully global citizens,” said Sandra Baldeon, founder of the school. “These kids will be with the curriculum we have that is high academically, and they are learning a second [and] third language. . . . They will be leaders at one point.” The school will host an open house Jan. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. and on Feb. 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. For more information about the school, visit
