    Medication drop-off bin proves popular

Marshfield’s medication drop-off bin, which police Chief Phillip Tavares says is the first in Plymouth County to be open 24 hours a day, was full within two weeks. The department officially announced the service Nov. 26 after installing the bin earlier in the fall. Police hope that rather than leaving unused medications around the home, where they can be misused, or flushing them, which contaminates groundwater, people will drop them off in the green bin in the lobby of the police station, at 1639 Ocean St. Drop-off is anonymous, with no questions asked. Police are most interested in seeing opiates and psychoactive drugs dropped off for safe disposal, but other drugs, including non-prescription medications, are welcome. Needles are not accepted. Marshfield residents who do not have transportation may call 781-834-6655, and a detective will pick up the medications.
