School district issues capital requests

Technology upgrades at the elementary schools and a study of existing conditions at Sharon High School are among $673,484 in capital requests the town’s schools are making for fiscal 2014, which begins next July 1. The School Committee voted Nov. 28 to endorse requests recommended by the administration. The list goes to the Capital Outlay Committee and will require approval at spring Town Meeting. Other requests include $68,000 for drop-off lanes outside East Elementary; $50,000 for card-access readers for exterior doors at Heights Elementary;  $29,600 to add staff bathrooms at two elementary schools; and $15,000 to replace football helmets. The district plans to spend $93,600 to upgrade iMac computers in the elementary schools. Superintendent Timothy Farmer and School Committee chairwoman Laura Salomons said the $130,000 high school study is expected to address, among other things, whether rooms could be reconfigured to enlarge the small science labs.
