Discarding old prescriptions

The Police Department and Board of Health are offering a program to help residents dispose of expired or unwanted prescription medications. A drug-drop kiosk in the Police Department's lobby on Route 6 is available 24 hours a day for disposing of medications. According to Karen Walega, the town's community health officer, flushing drugs down the toilet can   pollute water resources. The kiosk is not meant for liquid medications or syringe disposal, she said. There is a syringe-disposal box at the police station, but residents must first pick up a container at the health department office at the Marion Town House. For more information, contact the health department at 508-748-3530.
