    Library regains network benefits

The Norton Public Library was recertified by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in December, allowing residents to regain their interlibrary loan privileges in the SAILS Library Network. The public library in Bridgewater was recertified at the same time. “It’s a pretty big thing, because it’s been a long struggle back,” said Norton Library director Lee Parker. The library lost certification not long after it underwent budget cuts in 2008 that were disproportionate to cuts in other town departments, she said. Funding still hasn’t been fully restored, she said, but the library now meets the requirements for certification. Residents can once again go online and have books from other libraries in the region sent to the Norton library to be checked out. If residents have library cards that have gone unused for three years, the cards must be reactivated.
