Nuclear neighbors, unite

Plymouth is leading an effort to establish a nationwide “Coalition of Nuclear Communities,” and Southport, N.C., has joined the cause, according to Elizabeth Sullivan, special assistant to Plymouth’s town manager. Sullivan said 104 nuclear reactors are currently operating in 31 states, and Plymouth is trying to bring those communities together to advocate for the safe handling of spent fuel rods. Plymouth officials hope more communities will follow Southport’s example, she said. For more information about this coalition-in-the-making, visit
