Rochester’s Planning Board approved a request from the city of New Bedford to build a solar farm on land it owns in Rochester. The solar farm, which would be used to power New Bedford’s water-treatment facility at Little Quittacas Pond, would consist of approximately 14,000 photovoltaic panels and will be located off North Avenue. The appeal window ends Jan. 30, officials said, and if no appeals are made, the Planning Board will sign off on the plans. ConEdison Solutions would build and maintain the farm, officials said, which includes an earthen berm to obscure the equipment from the street. The farm will be built about 15 feet off the road.
