A Special Town Meeting on Feb. 12 will consider a zoning bylaw that would restrict where a medical marijuana dispensary could be located. The proposed bylaw, offered by selectmen, would allow a dispensary to be allowed only in the area that has already been etablished as an adult entertainment zone, which is on the east side of Route 3, according to Town Administrator Edwin Thorne. The statewide ballot question approved by voters last November allows for as many as 35 nonprofit medical marijuana treatment centers to grow and provide the drug, with no more than five per county. Pembroke is among a number of communities that have been moving to ban or restrict the location of the centers.
