An unexploded hand grenade was found around 5 p.m. last Sunday in the parking lot of Living Waters Church on Walpole Street, where it had been placed by a resident. According to police, the grenade was found when relatives were cleaning out the home of an elderly relative who was a veteran. After taking it to the parking lot, one of the relatives reported it to police. Norwood officers protected the scene and called the Massachusetts State Police. State Trooper Steven Sicard’s bomb-sniffing dog, Sierra, assisted and the grenade was found to be inert. Norwood police advise residents who discover something they think is explosive not to touch it, but to stay at least 50 yards away and call 911.
