Ames library awarded innovation grant

The Ames Free Library has been awarded a $40,000 state grant for its plan to expand services by adding a multi-use learning hub at the Queset House. The 19th-century building, owned by the library and located next door, will house a digital media lab, as well as film presentation and multimedia conference rooms. Grant money will help equip the areas so that several community agencies can benefit from their use. “A classic exterior and tech-savvy interior is the concept we’re trying to get across,” said library director Uma Hiremath. “The building is so drop-dead gorgeous.” Much of the grant will be available for use by late March, Hiremath said. Several organizations pitched in to develop the plan, including town officials, Oliver Ames High School, the Council on Aging, Easton Community Access Cable Television, and Stonehill College.
