Selectmen on Monday chose Hanson Town Administrator René Read to serve as Duxbury’s new town manager. The other finalist for the position was Norwell Town Administrator James Boudreau. Richard MacDonald, who announced late last year he was retiring from the town manager position, will continue to serve as interim town manager until Read, whose contract requires him to give Hanson 60 days notice, can start. Read has 19 years experience running town governments, and was assistant town manager in Mashpee and acting town administrator in Harwich. Read, a Duxbury resident, graduated from the University of Vermont, and has served as the town administrator in Hanson since 2009. His wife is from Norwell and they have two sons who attend Duxbury public schools.
