Families with young children are invited to a pre-kindergarten open house at the Gilmore Early Childhood Center on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Clinton Street school. Administrators and teachers will discuss educational opportunities available to 3- and 4-year-olds with and without disabilities. Tours are available. “We not only teach children basic skills and concepts, we help them learn to work within a group, to socialize and empathize, and to prepare them for kindergarten,” said principal Helen Virga. The Gilmore, which has a gym, cafeteria, and handicapped-accessible play structure, enrolls 275 students in full- and half-day sessions. Parents who attend the open house can also register children for a screening appointment.
