Second annual Quahog Book Award program

The Mattapoisett Free Public Library is hosting its second annual “Quahog Book Award” program to encourage reading by Mattapoisett children in grades three through six.   Students at each grade level can read from a list of 10 selected titles, and vote on their favorites by ballot from April 23 to 27. Four awards will be given at each grade level, and winners will be announced at a pizza party at the library on April 30. Any child reading at least five   books will be invited to a sleepover at the library, called “Quahog Night,” on May 3   for boys and May 20 for girls. The library’s director of children’s programs, Linda Burke, said that last year, children who didn’t live in Mattapoisett were turned away and that she’s hopeful “the program can easily be implemented by libraries in other towns.” For more information, visit or call the library at 508-758-4171.
