State and local elections set for April 30

Selectmen have decided to shift this year’s town election from its planned date of April 6 to April 30, the date of the primary to fill the US Senate seat formerly held by John Kerry. Since the local election will take place three weeks later than planned, Town Clerk Allison Ferreira has extended the period for taking out nomination papers to this Friday. Ferreira had lobbied for the single election date, saying it would be more convenient for voters, assure a better turn-out for the local election, and save the town some money. Residents have until April 10 to register to vote in the town election and statewide primary.
