It’s budget season in Norton, and the town’s Finance Committee has begun meeting twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, to craft the spending plan for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Local receipts are expected to be lower than the current year, according to Town Manager Michael Yunits. The town collected an additional $50,000 by raising its ambulance rates, he said, but finances remain tight. The town is $261,000 short of what it would need to give all the departments what they requested for the coming year, with $431,400 in requests from municipal government and $1.6 million from the schools, he said.
