Beach grass planting

The Beach Management Committee needs help planting beach grass on the dunes from Phipps Street north on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The rain date is next Sunday. The grass to be planted and the sign-in table will be at the corner of A Street and Beach Avenue. The town has been planting beach grass for several years to help stabilize and build the dunes and prevent shore erosion. The dunes are in terrible shape since the last storm, according to Paul Epstein, who chairs the Beach Management Committee. “They are very, very badly damaged,’’ he said. “The grass helps. I just hope there aren’t any more big storms for a while.’’ More information is available by contacting Epstein at pepstein@elclaw.com.
