I was in the worst mood yesterday morning. No, really. The worst mood. Brain swirling with thoughts about bills and responsibilities and no diversion in sight. Then I sat down to read Beverly Beckham’s column about spring, and something shifted. (“Spring is just around the corner....really,” March 3)
It turns out that just by being reminded that spring is coming, I can create a cheerful landscape within myself without waiting for the outer world to change. A landscape in which I hear the birds chirping, feel the temperature rising, notice the longer days coming.
For now, reading about spring was enough. Oh, and I’ll buy some coconut-smelling cream today so I can practice at least one of the ways you suggest warding off the winter blues until spring arrives.
