Town gets car-seat grant

The Police Department was awarded a $1,500 grant from the state to buy child car seats for town residents who need them, said Police Chief Paul Magee. The car seats will be distributed and installed by Officer Robert Nordahl, the department’s passenger safety technician, who wrote the grant application. The car-seat program is aimed at reducing children’s injuries and fatalities by giving out federally approved seats to residents, as well as educating the public on their proper installation and usage, McGee said. According to the police department website, more than 90 percent of car seats in the state are incorrectly installed. Nordahl is available to help pick out and install the seats by calling 508-763-5112, ext. 162, or e-mailing him at _rnordahl@townofrochester.com.
