Fire chief to explain department’s overtime costs

Fire Chief John J. Grant will explain at the Board of Selectmen meeting Thursday why his department requires $63,000 to cover extra overtime for firefighters. At a previous meeting, Selectman Denis Keohane said it was important for all departments to get personnel costs under control. “I have a big problem with the fact that we have 59 firefighters and we can’t get 11 firefighters to show up when they are supposed to show up and go home when they are supposed to go home,” Keohane said. Selectmen agreed to put off a decision on appropriating $63,000 to the Fire Department until after hearing the chief.
