Parents develop adoption network

Hingham parents Laura Donnelly and Sharon Harrington have developed a program to bring together families formed by adoption. The group, called Our Hearts Match — Families Through Adoption of Hingham, is inviting families with elementary school-aged children to meet on May 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Recreation Center behind Town Hall. Donnelly has two children through adoption, an eight-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, while Harrington’s eight-year-old daughter is adopted. According to Donnelly, “I was inspired by a woman from Hingham who has two children who are adopted . . . and she said, ‘As much as we like to think that children are all the same, there are some differences,’ and adoption was one of them. She wished there was a more open discussion, as do I, in Hingham.” Donnelly said she hopes the group will eventually bring in speakers and counselors to discuss issues related to adoptions.
