Town election on Tuesday

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday for the annual town election, which has no contested races. “There are a few new people that took slots of incumbents who decided not to run, but it’s all pretty straightforward,” said Town Clerk Jean Kopke. Voters will get to choose whether to approve a debt exclusion for a parking lot project at Butler Elementary School. The $1.5 million project won approval at the last Town Meeting, but needs voter approval as well because the debt would exceed the limits of Proposition 2½, Kopke said. She is predicting a light turnout. “We’ve gotten almost no [requests for] absentees [ballots], and that’s usually a sign of how elections are going to go,” she said.
