Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan awarded a $200,000 grant to the town of Marshfield on Monday to remove unnecessary pilings from under the Sea Street Bridge. Widened in 2011, the cleared channel now allows for full use of the South River by boaters. The grant is an inter-agency effort between the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The grant money will ensure completion of the project and safe passage under the new Sea Street Bridge by removing the old piles. In addition, the Department of Conservation and Recreation's Division of Waterways issued a separate grant for $25,000 to the town to assist in the development of surveys and designs, as well as permitting, for the proposed maintenance and dredging of the river.
