Arbor Day celebration


The town will plant three trees at the Avon Senior Housing campus on Friday as part of Avon’s third annual Arbor Day celebration. Scheduled speakers at the 10 a.m. event include state Senator Brian Joyce and Selectman Robert Brady. The trees are the gift of National Grid, according to Town Administrator Michael McCue. “Last year, National Grid donated and planted three evergreens at the Avon Public Library,” McCue said. “I hope it is a tradition we can keep up for years.” As a result of its efforts in urban forestry, Avon was named a Tree City USA in 2013, he said.
